The "LIPSTICK" pattern: Dress or Top for Women!

Le patron "LIPSTICK" : Robe ou Top pour Femme !

Hello everyone!
Summer vacation is fast approaching; it's the perfect time to introduce you to "Lipstick", your summer dress!!! Lipstick is the new Chut Charlotte pattern for women; a 2 in 1 pattern because you can sew a Dress or Top version. An ultra easy and quick pattern to sew, without the fuss: perfect for the holidays, what ;-)

First, let me show you a dress version in red crepe fabric... This color is simple, I'm just crazy about it! As Barbara from Bee made says, you should always have a red dress in your wardrobe!! Seriously, it's a color that immediately gives you a healthy glow, which gives a smile, a smile; in short, I love it!
And what's more, you will have noticed, this color goes exactly with my red pumps!!!

So "Lipstick" is a little sleeveless dress, slightly trapeze, with a pretty ruffled collar in front, and a beautiful neckline in front and back... Because it's summer, it's 'we want sun, glam', hot summer evenings where we dance frenzied rock in the open air... You agree with me, don't you?? In any case, that's how I see summer personally ;-)

And here is the back of "Lipstick", a pretty rounded neckline...

Tech Info:

  • "Lipstick" pattern size 38.
  • Red crepe fabric (My little haberdashery) & golden piping.
A word about this fabric: it's quite thin, and it was my first time sewing crepe! Suffice to say that I worried a little... But wrongly! After the cutting stage, which is a little more perilous (the crepe tends to slip... you really must not skimp on the pins to secure the fabric to the pattern...), the sewing stage is " fingerinzenosis"! Oh yes, beware of ironing too: light ironing, preferably with a wet patch, is better...
Once finished, this garment is super comfortable to wear! However, I was afraid of the 100% polyester side, but on the contrary: it is light, fluid, soft... Like a commercial item of clothing!
The only downside: the navy blue version is slightly transparent (but not the red one, don't know why...) I had chosen the "Linda" fabric at €8.10 at "Ma petite mercerie", but I saw that they also had slightly thicker ones, at 9.80€; maybe it's better... You can see them all here .
  • Otherwise, La jolie girafe had mentioned on her blog Rascol crepes, at €9.95, which according to her are great!

Here is a second, more classic version in navy blue crepe and silver piping:

That's good, this Lipstick goes wonderfully with my Liberty wedges!

A little zoom on the back: the neckline is edged with piping, with a navy blue polka dot bias on top, placed "astride" on the seam allowances... If that sounds Chinese to you, don' Don't worry, everything is explained in the booklet ;-)

Tech Info:

  • "Lipstick" pattern size 38.
  • Navy blue crepe fabric (Ma petite mercerie) & silver piping.
For the fabric, I refer you to my blabla above: this one is slightly transparent ...But hey, it's not indecent either ;-)

A 3rd version in viscose fabric of "See you at six", just beautiful with these little dandelions! I bought it from "Lulu the firefly", a nice site full of wonders!

Tech Info:

  • "Lipstick" pattern size 38
  • Fabric"See you at six"viscose, purchased from "Lulu the firefly".
It's a very soft and fluid fabric; Its only flaw: it wrinkles easily! Unlike crepe, which has the enormous advantage of not having to be ironed (dress washed / dried in 2 seconds / worn immediately...), you will not escape the ironing chore for viscose! But hey, as Agathe from the blog "Pacotille" would say: "according to my own theorem of absolute optimistic relativization, any fabric that creases easily is just as easily ironed". That's it, it says it all.

Then I wanted to try the Lipstick pattern with double gauze! You may know this ultra-trendy fabric of the moment? The double gauze is in fact made up of 2 panels of cotton gauze sewn together, which means that it is absolutely not transparent (1 good point), but that it remains ultra soft like a comforter (2nd good point) .
I had already sewn myself a "Lady of Hearts" in double red gauze, and had worn it a lot in the spring.
This time, I chose an ultra luminous color, which oscillates between turquoise blue and emerald... I love it!!

I paired it with Liberty Betsy in the same tones, and shimmering piping...

Tech Info:

And finally, I present to you a "Top" version of the Lipstick pattern, in a very light black viscose:

 Technical Info:

  • "Lipstick" pattern size 38.
  • Black viscose (Verdoliva); silver piping. For the straps and bottom hem, I used a black cotton with silver polka dots from my stock. This is the advantage of this pattern: you can mix the fabrics, the materials (English embroidery or lace for the straps for example), the colors...

Some info on the pattern now!
The "Lipstick" pattern is available in PDF only.

Three sizes are available:
Size 34-46 at €8.90
Size 48-56 at 8.90€
PACK Sizes 34-56 at 10.90€

As with all Chut Charlotte patterns, seam allowances are included.
This really is an easy pattern to sew, and very quick! Motivated beginners can get started, thanks to the numerous diagrams + explanations in the booklet...

Length length, it is necessary to count 170 cm for the dress version; 130 cm for the top version.
UNLESS you do like me (band of barbarians!), and decide to place your pieces in front & back head to tail! Be careful, this is not at all academic, and I can already hear a few disapproving voices raised in the audience!!
No, no kidding, if you're using a plain fabric with no specific meaning (crepe, tencel, double gauze), you can use my savage method. The good news is that you only need 1m of fabric to make the Lipstick dress!!! Isn't that great??

I hope I have made you want to sew yourself a dress or a Lipstick top for this summer!

Above all, don't hesitate to send me photos of your beautiful creations(contact@chutcharlotte.com), or to "tag" me on social networks!
