A special "Lady of heart" for chilly people! + TUTORIAL long sleeves

Une "Dame de coeur" spéciale frileuses ! + TUTO manches longues

I am here today to show you a twisted version of the "Dame de coeur" pattern, in very cozy quilted jersey and long sleeves... Perfect for this spring, which is still a bit chilly!

For this version, I used the very beautiful quilted Jersey from France Duval Stalla, a joy to sew and wear... ultra soft, ultra comfortable: I'm won over! I added silver piping, and silver bias to the sleeves, which are very long so that they can be worn rolled up.

I did violence to myself not to mix this plain white with prints, especially with Liberty!! But I wanted to be able to wear this crossover sweater with everything... So I played it sober, and in the end I'm happy! My new cuddly cardigan goes perfectly with jeans, a printed blouse... It's perfect!

The mini tutorial

Here is how I proceeded to adapt the "Dame de coeur" pattern to this project:
- For the size, I cut in size 38, like the previous blouses. I had considered cutting it up a size so I could wear clothes underneath, but in the end I did well not to! As the jersey is stretchy, it's loose enough like that... Next time, I'll maybe even cut it into a 36 to make it a little more fitted to the shoulders.
ADVICE , after some feedback from customers who have tried this version: do not hesitate to choose a size smaller if you sew your Lady of Heart in stretch fabric (jersey, quilted jersey. .) !

- I kept exactly the same construction as the pattern, namely that the right side is sewn on both sides and does not open like the other side. This means that the wrap-over slips on over the head, then closes with the left flap that is tied on the side... It is therefore in fact a mix between the sweater, the cardigan and the cover-up. -heart ! #enmodehybride
That said, if you really want to sew yourself a wrap, with the 2 sides that open, it's possible... I'll do a little tutorial if you're interested...

- There are 2 types of sleeves offered in the pattern: short sleeves with sleeve bracelets, or 3/4 sleeves. There, I wanted a real cozy wrap-over sweater, with very long sleeves! So I extended the 3/4 sleeves by 22 cm, and reduced their width at the bottom by 2 cm on each side. I took a picture for you when modifying the pattern to make it clear:

As you can see, I first extended the line of the sleeve (size 38 here) by 22 cm (in gray in the photo), then I made a mark 2 cm from this line inside, for each side of the sleeve. And there, I connected my point at 2 cm and the top of the sleeve (red line)...
This gives a slightly more fitted sleeve, with a slightly less loose wrist.

- for the finish of the sleeve, I used the technique of applied bias, with a silver bias, and so I can wear my sleeves rolled up...

The Fine Points:

- This very soft fabric is rather easy to sew, but it's still jersey... So inevitably, more stretchy than cotton for example... So I had a little trouble sewing the piping around the front and back yoke... I was also worried about the bias binding along the rounded left side, but it was quite easy, and it didn't warp!
However, be careful not to pull on the jersey when you sew the bias, to prevent the fabric from curling...

- If you are embarking on this kind of project, I advise you to take a jersey with little elastane, so as not to struggle too much...

Recap:

- "Queen of Hearts" pattern in size 38 (available in PDF or cover version); modified at the level of the sleeves
- Fabric: quilted jersey from France Duval Stalla (count 2 meters to be quiet); I have the impression that it is no longer available on the FDS site currently, but you can find it in several online shops (a little search on Google for example)

Okay, now I really want to sew some more in fleece, jersey, or even wool!
And you, how do you imagine your "Lady of heart"??

  • Bonjour,
