Myself, a few years ago, when I wanted to invent my own patterns, I had to train myself... You can't improvise yourself as a pattern maker overnight, you can imagine! So I started with a simple and accessible online book called "Creating Custom Patterns".

This manual is a real gold mine! The author Mélanie Guittard, who is a professional model maker, explains to you with very clear texts and diagrams all the basics of model making.
It's about learning to create your own base perfect , from your measurements: a skirt, a top, pants... You start from your own measurements and the author explains how to create the perfect garment from your measurements.

There are 6 sections in this manual:

• skirts
• the bodices
• the sleeves
• the passes
• dresses
• trousers

For each chapter, the author explains how to create your ideal base, and presents all the possible variations (straight, flared, bowling skirt; gigot, butterfly, balloon sleeves...). You are also given all the basic techniques for setting up a sleeve, adding darts, lining a jacket, etc.

Is it for me?
Yes, if you really want to get into pattern making, and learn how to create your own custom patterns...

The only downside is that you can quickly get discouraged... Creating all your basic patterns, we're not going to lie to each other, it takes time, and it requires a lot of rigor...

If you don't want to worry too much, and are afraid of getting discouraged, I have good news: with the purchase of this manual, a pack of basic patterns, wife and child, is offered to you !
What are basic patterns, you're going to tell me?
These are patterns to print (like the Chut Charlotte patterns for example), directly at home: you reconstitute the pattern sheets (it's is very simple), and then you just have to cut out your size, and there you have a basic pattern to work on!
So of course, it won't be exactly your measurements; that's why I also advise you to get the manual to learn how to create your database, or at least modify the one that is provided to you for free. But already, it gives you a good base to start!

So there, with the manual + the basic patterns offered, you have a turnkey method to start really creating your patterns and having fun...
And you can even sew for your toddlers since in the patterns available, there is a bodice base and a skirt base for girls aged 2 to 8!

Is this done for me?
Yes, if you want to have fun starting from a base to "hack". On the other hand, this will not explain all the modifications to be made to create, for example, butterfly sleeves, a strapless or asymmetrical dress, etc. So if you don't master all these techniques, it seems more interesting to me to get the complete manual + the basic patterns, but it's up to you ;-)
