How about getting into leather sewing?
You'll see, it's not that difficult!
All you need is the right equipment, knowing the right techniques, and everything becomes simple!!
We tell you everything in this article!
1/ CHOOSING THE RIGHT LEATHER
Opt for leather that is not too thick.
The ideal, if you use your classic sewing machine: a leather of 0.3 to 1 mm max thickness.
My favorite sites to buy leather:
2/ BY HAND or BY MACHINE?
Good news: you can sew leather with a conventional sewing machine !
Besides, I sewed all my leather bags on my classic sewing machine!
You just need to use leather that's not too thick, and equip yourself with the right tools...
3/ THE POINTS TO USE
We recommend using a straight stitch, and looong!
Indeed, the stitches must be long enough to prevent the leather from tearing!
4/ THE NEEDLES
Use special leather machine needles.
Made of hardened steel, they are very rigid, and there is no risk of breaking at the first point...
You can find some here or there.
5/ THE THREAD
You will need to buy strong and thick enough yarn.
Here are some recommendations:
- Polyester yarn
- Spool of extra strong thread (Gütterman)
- AMIFIL range
You can find some on online haberdashery (type "mapetitemercerie") or on specialized sites ("the thread of your ideas")
6/ THE CROWBAR
If you have a Special leather TEFLON FOOT, this is ideal!
This one is available at Mondial Tissus for example.
Alternatively, you can use baking paper, and place it between your leather and the crowbar: this will prevent the fabric does not "grip"...
7/ CHOOSING THE RIGHT BOSS
Randomly, you can start with the boss of our BESACE "In the City" !!!
The booklet is full of tips, diagrams and explanations!!
And you can also join LE CLUB CHUT to watch the video tutorial & ask all your questions during the Lives!
(Every month, in the Chut Club, we sew a pattern together from A to Z, with joy and good humor!)
So, are you ready??
